Shoura endorses 2-day weekend for private sector

The 150-member consultative Shoura Council has endorsed a proposal to provide 40-hour week with a two-day weekend to employees in the private sector. Saudis and expatriates have applauded the Shoura decision.
The Shoura members, who met on Monday, adopted a number of amendments to the Labor Law and agreed to reduce total weekly working hours from 45 to 40. They also agreed to make working contracts unlimited after the completion of the first term.
The measure will be sent to the Cabinet, which will then table it for deliberation.
